After all the success he's enjoyed recently I wouldn't blame Formula One champ Lewis for wanting to spoil his supportive sweetheart Nicole Scherzinger rotten with lavish trips and romantic getaways. So wasn't it sweet that, when he wanted to acknowledge how much his Pussycat Doll love means to him, he whisked her away not to Mauritius or the Maldives but somewhere closer to his heart - his Herefordshire home town of Stevenage.

Somehow wanting to share the place where he first dreamed of being a champion, where he put in the long, challenging hours on which took him to the top, is so much more intimate than a holiday in a beautiful, but insignificant location. I admit, if someone took me on a tour which included their high school and first home I probably wouldn't get it at first. But thinking about it, the gesture is really romantic.
