Though many of you probably have Paris Hilton pegged as a free spirit, with no plans to ever settle down, I actually thought her latest relationship with Good Charlotte rocker Benji was going to last. Call me an old romantic, but it's the first time I think I've ever seen the socialite looking so devoted and I was convinced an engagement announcement would be imminent.

What's more, it looked like the guitarist was proving a positive influence on the beautiful blonde, who seemed to be settling into a more stable, relaxed way of life. She'd been so unlucky in love in the past and I was over the moon she'd found someone to make her truly happy.

So for me the announcement of their split has come as a shock, especially since they've been proclaiming their love for each other at every possible opportunity. I guess it just wasn't meant to be, though. I just hope she finds someone else who compliments her in every way soon!
